Hello, about me

Violet Cornett

Bridging Languages, Building Community

My name is Violet Cornett, and for me, language is more than just words—it’s the key to connection, opportunity, and a thriving community. As a native Spanish speaker with over seven years of experience teaching adult English in Colby, I have dedicated my career to helping neighbors communicate with confidence and clarity.

My Expertise

I specialize in creating tailored learning experiences that meet students where they are. My background spans:

  • Language Instruction: Teaching conversational English and Spanish, as well as structured curriculum for all levels.

  • Professional Spanish: Leading Business Spanish courses at the college level to help professionals excel in a global market.

  • Translation Services: Serving as a linguistic bridge for the Colby community, providing translation for local schools, city offices, and small businesses.

Rooted in Colby

I believe that a community thrives when its members are supported and understood. You can often find me working throughout town at some of my favorite local spots:

  • Pioneer Memorial Library

  • Catholic Charities

  • Brewing Up Words

Whether I am in a classroom or translating for a local shop, my goal remains the same: helping the community thrive by helping you thrive. If you’re looking to master a new language, sharpen your business communication, or need a reliable voice for translation, I’m here to help.

My Story

Educator, Translator, & Storyteller

Language has always been the heartbeat of my life. Born and raised in New Mexico as a native Spanish speaker, I’ve spent my entire life navigating the beautiful space between two languages. Seven years ago, I brought that passion to Colby, Kansas, where I’ve had the privilege of helping our community grow through communication.

From the Classroom to the Page

While many know me through my work at the Pioneer Memorial Library, Catholic Charities, or the local bookstore Brewing Up Words, my mission is always the same: helping you thrive.

My professional journey is a bit of a "Spanglish" tapestry:

  • The Teacher: I’ve spent nearly a decade teaching adult English and Spanish curriculum, including specialized Business Spanish at the college level.

  • The Translator: I serve as a linguistic bridge for our local schools, city offices, and shops, ensuring nothing gets lost in translation.

  • The Author: My love for reading and writing led me to become a children’s author. I currently have three books, starting with my first, My Aunt Flor. Writing in "Spanglish" allows me to share the bilingual experience with the next generation.

At Home in Colby

When I’m not teaching or writing, I’m likely enjoying life here in Colby with my husband and our very energetic trio of dogs: Titus and Denver (our English Bulldogs) and Kato (our Bull Terrier).

I believe that every person—and every business—has a story worth telling. My goal is to give you the tools, whether through a lesson or a translation, to tell yours clearly and confidently.
